Arrest made in Johnston County homicide

Jerome Bernard Neal, 29, of Barnes Lake Road in Middlesex, was arrested and charged with a Johnston County double shooting that left one dead and another injured on Jan. 11, 2014.

MIDDLESEX, N.C. — A Middlesex man was arrested and charged with a Johnston County double shooting that left one dead and another injured Saturday night.

Authorities responded to a shooting call at 370 Barnes Lake Rd. in Middlesex just before 8 p.m. Two men were found shot when they arrived.

Darrick Hagans, 18, of Spring Hope, was pronounced dead at the scene. Kwami Jones, 19, of Spring Hope, was transported to WakeMed where he was treated and released.

Jerome Bernard Neal, 29, of Barnes Lake Road in Middlesex, was arrested and charged with murder, attempted murder and possession of a firearm by a felon. Neal was held at the Johnston County jail with no bond.

Investigators have not said what led to the shootings.
