Washington, N.C. — Firefighters extinguished a blaze at a Beaufort County apartment early Wednesday, then discovered a man dead inside.
Washington police Lt. William Chrismon said emergency crews responded to the fire at Highland Apartments on Quail Drive in Washington at 12:30 a.m. After the blaze was put out, investigators found the body of 59-year-old Larry Dickerson inside his apartment, which was one of several units that were damaged.
The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation, but Chrismon said Dickerson’s apartment had the most damage.
The exact cause of his death has not yet been determined.
