ROLESVILLE, N.C. — One person was killed early Sunday morning in a crash in Rolesville, authorities said.

The wreck occurred at 524 Averette Road, near Jones Dairy Road, at about 4:40 a.m. when a car hit a house, according to authorities.

It was not immediately clear what caused the crash, but authorities said speed was a factor.

George Garcia was at the home when the crash occurred but said he didn't see or hear anything because he sleeps on the other side of the house. He noticed the car when he was on his way to pick up the paper Sunday morning.

"As I walked by, I saw the car parked there and it kind of threw me off, you know. I was kind of half asleep at the time," said Garcia.

Garcia quickly realized a driver ran their car into the side of his house at some point before the sun came up.

"It looked like right beside the car there was a blanket or something laying on the ground," said Garcia. "As I got closer, I noticed it was a body."

Garcia said the crash did some substantial damage to his house, but that it's able to withstand a hit.

Garcia was worried though, about the number of accidents that have occurred near his house, which sits on Averett Road near Jones Dairy Road. He recalled at least four previous accidents where drivers missed the stop at Jones Dairy Road coming onto Averette Road, landing right in the middle of his yard. Sunday's accident, Garcia said, was much too close with an outcome that was too tragic.

"It's a recipe for disaster. We have talked to DOT. They actually went ahead and put some signs there stating there is a stop coming up, but it's not enough," said Garcia.

The driver's name was not immediately known.
