One day out of jail, sex offender accused of rape
A convicted sex offender is accused of raping a Goldsboro woman one day after he was released from prison.

A 21-year-old woman reported that Stephen Leon Williams, 30, sexually assaulted her while she was sleeping at a home in the 1100 block of North Center Street, police investigators said. Williams, of 1227 N. John St., was charged Tuesday with second-degree rape.
The woman reported the alleged assault to police on Feb. 11. A day earlier, Williams had been released from prison, according to state Department of Correction records.
He had served six months after his parole was revoked for a larceny conviction. He had been on parole after finishing a seven-year sentence for a habitual-felon and vehicle break-in convictions.
Williams was convicted of attempted abduction of a child in Wayne County in 2002, records show. He served 10½ months in jail and was ordered to register as a sex offender.
Altogether, Williams has spent more than 10 of the past 14 years behind bars. He has 15 convictions, including many for break-ins and theft-related charges.
He is currently being held in the Wayne County jail under a $200,000 secured bond. His first court appearance was set for Tuesday afternoon.
