Pittsboro, N.C. — Chatham County deputies were searching Monday for a Sanford man in connection with a fatal shooting near Bear Creek early Saturday.
Deputies responding to a shots-fired call at 530 Mays Chapel Church Road found Roosevelt Terell Dixon, 25, of Sanford, walking in the road with a gunshot wound to his leg and found Roger Torran Smith Jr., 35, of Moncure, dead in a vehicle at the intersection of Mays Chapel Church Road and James Goldston Road.
Witnesses said the two men had been at a party that broke up around 1 a.m., and investigators said they believe the shootings were drug- or gang-related.
Dixon, who was taken to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill for treatment, was charged Sunday with first-degree murder. Deputies also obtained a warrant charging Jovon Maurice Marks, 33, of Sanford, with murder.
Marks wasn't in custody as of Monday afternoon. Any with information on his whereabouts is asked to call the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office at 919-542-6116. Deputies said he should be considered armed and dangerous.
