RALEIGH, N.C. — A 19-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with an early Sunday morning fatal vehicle wreck in Raleigh.

Keondre Lamont Griffin was travelling north on Jones Sausage Road near Integrity Drive in a 2011 Buick sedan when his vehicle struck the rear of a 2003 Chevrolet SUV with Timothy Keith Cooper, 34, and his wife, Rebie, 30, inside, Raleigh police said.

The impact caused the Coopers' vehicle to leave the roadway to the right, go down an embankment and strike a tree.

The Coopers were transported to WakeMed, where Rebie Cooper later died. Timothy Cooper sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Griffin, who was not injured, was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, speeding, and failure to reduce speed.

Prior to the crash, Timothy Cooper picked up his wife from the Tammy Lynn Center, which serves children and adults with developmental disabilities.

"She was made for that. She was born for that kind of work," said Sarah Crawford, the facility's spokesperson.

Rebie Cooper had finished a double shift, and her husband picked her up just to make sure she got home safe, Crawford said.

"She was here working one minute, and then gone," she said.
