SPRING LAKE, N.C. — A Spring Lake resident was robbed Monday while trying to sell a $3,200 diamond engagement ring through Craigslist, but police officers quickly nabbed one of the suspects with the stolen sparkler.

The incident happened about 1:15 p.m. in the parking lot of a Spring Lake Walmart, where the seller had arranged to meet the prospective buyer. Police said Tony DL Adams, 20, drove Patrick Dewayne Flanagan, 19, to the parking lot in a gold-colored Ford and dropped him off. Flanagan allegedly robbed the seller at gunpoint and ran.

Police were called to the scene and searched the area around the store. They found Flanagan on nearby Pinetree Lane, along with the ring and a 9mm handgun investigators think was used in the robbery.

Flanagan, of 121 Green St. Apt. B in Spring Lake, was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was held under a $75,000 secured bond at the Cumberland County Detention Center.

Police are still looking for Adams, of 314 Hendon St. in Spring Lake, who is also charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy. Adams is a person of interest in several recent Spring Lake robberies and should be considered armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts should call Spring Lake police at 910-436-0350.
