One arrested, two sought in theft of cars from Cary neighborhood

A man was taken into custody early Thursday after he allegedly crashed a stolen vehicle into a van near the intersection of Walnut Street and Dillard Drive in Cary, police said.

CARY, N.C. — Police arrested a man and were seeking two others Thursday in connection with the theft of three vehicles in a Cary neighborhood.

Officers responded to 1200 block of Donaldson Court, off Walnut Street, around 5 a.m. after receiving a call about car break-ins.

Five other vehicles were damaged.

Rashaad Antwain McKnight, 22, who is accused of stealing one of the vehicles, wrecked on Dillard Drive, crashing into a van carrying two adults and three children after crossing the median.

McKnight fled the scene on foot, and he was arrested about two hours later in the woods off Piney Plains Road.

He was jailed under a $60,000 secured bond on three counts of larceny of a motor vehicle and one count each of breaking and entering into a motor vehicle, felony hit-and-run and speeding to elude arrest.

More charges are pending.

One woman in the van was taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

A second stolen car was found abandoned on Interstate 40 between U.S. Highway 1 and Lake Wheeler Road. A Chevrolet Tahoe was still missing Thursday afternoon.
