One arrested, one sought in Goldsboro slaying

Police have arrested one man and were searching for a second in the shooting death of Goldsboro man.

GOLDSBORO, N.C. — Police have arrested one man and were searching for a second in the shooting death of Goldsboro man Sept. 24.

Cleveland Ward, 30, of 206 Hereford Drive, Apt. E, in Goldsboro, and James Sanders, 34, of 218 Brewington Drive in Dudley, face first-degree murder charges in the death of Eric Lamont Best.

Officers have arrested Ward, but Saunders remained on the run Thursday night.

Best was found shot at 705 Franklin St. around 4 p.m. and taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Ward has served nearly eight months in prison and been sentenced to probation three times for drug and driving offenses since 2000, according to state Department of Correction records.
