Posted October 2, 2008

— Police have arrested one man and were searching for a second in the shooting death of Goldsboro man Sept. 24.

Cleveland Ward, 30, of 206 Hereford Drive, Apt. E, in Goldsboro, and James Sanders, 34, of 218 Brewington Drive in Dudley, face first-degree murder charges in the death of Eric Lamont Best.

Officers have arrested Ward, but Saunders remained on the run Thursday night.

Best was found shot at 705 Franklin St. around 4 p.m. and taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Anyone with information on Sanders' whereabouts should call Goldsboro police at 919-580-4242 or Crime Stoppers at 919-735-2255.

Ward has served nearly eight months in prison and been sentenced to probation three times for drug and driving offenses since 2000, according to state Department of Correction records.

Sanders looks like he just won the lottery. While he may have won the "man love lottery", im not so sure it warrants an ear-to-ear grin. To each his own, I guess.

Another case for our failed probation system. Is it going to take the "right person's" family member getting killed for something to be done? Probation should be for people who make A mistake not for repeat offenders.
