RALEIGH, N.C. — A large police presence gathered at a construction site in North Raleigh on Wednesday after a man was shot in a road rage incident.

Video sent from a witness who appears to be sitting in a nearby truck shows two men, who appear to be exchanging gunfire. One is inside a vehicle, the other is outside the vehicle, running towards it. Multiple shots can be heard in the video.

Multiple Raleigh police officers responded to the 4800 block of Duraleigh Road, near the entrance to a work zone.

Around 10: 55 a.m., officers found a man who had been shot. The man was taken to the hospital with injuries that aren't considered life-threatening. He is expected to survive.

Police arrested Sylvester Stokes, 52, and charged him with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, as well as possession of a firearm by a felon. He is employed Dynamic Hauling, according to officials.

“It was a lot of gunshots. Bam, Bam, Bam, Bam Bam, Bam, Bam. Like there was more than one," says Lindsey Davis, who works from home nearby. She heard the gunshots and walked over to see what was going on.

“I saw the crime tape and I figured something bad had happened,” she says.

Davis says she isn't surprised to hear about road rage on this section of Duraleigh Road, which she says is a residential area with a lot of traffic.

“There’s people who cut off people a lot, and I’m sure it makes others mad, so I’m sure it’s a big problem,” she says. “I know people speed on this road. It’s a problem."

Davis says she doesn't even feel safe walking on the sidewalk on Duraleigh Road.

"Cars are flying by. My husband takes his bike to work and the bus, so I’m worried about him," she says.

According to court records, Stokes was previously arrested with assault with a deadly weapon in Franklin County in 2011. He was convicted two years later in 2013 but did not serve any prison time.
