Omaha man recalls encounter with tornado while in his car

"I could see swirling above me just a bunch of trash," said McGeorge. "It was like someone punched you in the stomach."

He lives in Omaha, but his tornado encounter happened in Kearney back in 2008.

"It was literally like something out of the movies, dodging in between trees that were down on the road," said McGeorge. "When I was in that situation, you don't think about dying, you just thinking about living."

So, what do you do if you're caught in a tornado while you're behind the wheel?

Do you keep driving? ...or do you pull over and take cover?

Boy scout Mike Evano says keep moving.

"I say this all the time, is just kinda keeping a clear head and thinking clearly about what your goal is and staying positive," said Evano. "You don't want to just stop the car and put your head down, you want to try to get somewhere safe in the opposite direction of the weather hazard."

He says don't go under a bridge or in a ditch because you could get sucked out or hit by flying debris.

Instead, he says to find any building with a foundation to take shelter in.

McGeorge got to his brother's house just in time.

"If you want to live, who cares whose house it is," said McGeorge. "Just knock on the door, if it's unlocked get in there and get in the basement."

It's something that saved his life.
