ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Some toys are so special that they deserve recognition for the years of laughter and smiles they produced.

The National Toy Hall of Fame at the Rochester, N.Y., Strong Museum recently named the 12 toy finalists for 2013.

The nominees vary from 80s favorites like Pac-Man, My Little Pony and the Magic 8 Ball to classics like chess, the scooter and the rubber duck.

Later this month, a national selection committee will vote on which two finalists will win a spot in the hall of fame. Toys are selected on the basis of: icon status, longevity, discovery and innovation.

On Nov. 7, the 2013 inductees will be revealed at a special ceremony.

To date, 51 toys have been inducted into the hall of fame.

The 2012 inductees included Star Wars action figures and dominos. Others include the bicycle, Play-Doh and Barbie. Also on the list are less traditional toys that have provided kids with entertainment for years like a stick and a cardboard box.

Check out the National Toy Hall of Fame website for the full list of nominees and vote for your favorite.
