Old coal plant demolished in Carbon County

HELPER, Utah — An old coal plant in Carbon County is being demolished this week.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/2gphxhB ) that the metal from the Carbon Power Plant near the town of Helper, Utah will be recycled.
The 62-year-old plan used to be a key cog in PacifiCorp's electrical-generating fleet until he was retired last year because it cost too much to bring it into compliance with mercury emission rules.
PacifiCorp spokesman Paul Murphy says the site east of U.S. Highway 6 will be cleaned up and restored as close to its natural conditions as possible.
Carbon County and neighboring Emery County have long relied on coal-related jobs. Many residents say federal and state restrictions on coal plants unfairly blames fossil fuels for climate change and air quality problems.
