Posted June 29, 2012

— Military officials at Fort Bragg confirmed Friday that a soldier shot and killed his superior officer before shooting and wounding himself Thursday afternoon.

They also identified a third soldier who was wounded in the incident. Spc. Michael Latham, 22, of Vacaville, Calif., has been released from Womack Army Medical Center at Fort Bragg officials said.

Fort Bragg officials haven't released the identities of the gunman or the soldier killed in the shooting, nor have they commented on a possible motive. The incident remains under investigation.

Fort Bragg Public Affairs Officer Col. Kevin Arata said the soldiers are from the 525th Battlefield Surveillance Brigade.

The gunman is in critical condition, officials said.

Fort Bragg is home to the 82nd Airborne Division, the XVIII Airborne Corps and Special Operations forces.

gosh, never recall ever wanting to shoot any of the officers above me. They pretty much all outstanding and influential leaders for the most part. Some were a little bit silver-spooned snots and could tell they had everything handed to them, but they weren't generally bad or unfair.
