LAKE LURE, N.C. — Some much-needed rain that swept through western North Carolina on Tuesday helped firefighters contain the Party Rock wildfire that was burning near Lake Lure.

Oregon's incident management team, which was brought in to help fight the fire, turned control of the battle back over to the local North Carolina Forest Service District, according to a news release. Forest Service officials will continue to patrol the area for several weeks.

“We are pleased to be at a point where we can release firefighters to go back to their homes and return a fully contained fire back to the home district”, said Incident Commander Link Smith.

The Party Rock fire was one of several that burned hundreds of acres in North Carolina.

As firefighters begin to wrangle fires in the Tar Heel State, new fires are burning across the border nad threatening homes and businesses in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
