GREENVILLE, N.C. — Officials say a North Carolina man facing a murder charge had to be forcibly removed from his cell before a court appearance.
WITN in Greenville reports authorities at the Pitt County Detention Center say a special team wa summoned to escort 30-year-old Christopher Mitchell to court. The authorities say Mitchell was combative and refusing to leave his cell, adding that it took 30 minutes to get him from his cell into the courtroom.
Once in court, a judge set Mitchell's bond at $2 million and assigned a court-appointed attorney.
Mitchell is accused in the strangulation of 48-year-old Carrie Ann Gordon, whose body was found at a Greenville motel on Labor Day. Detectives say security footage helped identify Mitchell as a suspect.
