BAHAMA, N.C. — A body was pulled from Lake Michie Sunday morning.

Around 9:45 a.m., deputies with the Durham County Sheriff's Department responded to Lake Michie, a body of water located at 2303 Bahama Road in northern Durham County. A body was pulled from the water near a boathouse.

Authorities identified the body on Monday as 76-year-old Harold Huston Wood of Hillsborough.

Wood's body was discovered by a fisherman.

Brandon Boone came out to Lake Michie Sunday morning to take his boat out and fish when he noticed two boathouse employees walking on the dock furthest from the entrance to the recreation area and then heard sirens.

"When we came back from that end, we seen ambulances and cop cars and everything else," he said. 'It's awful. I feel bad for the family and if they have kids or anything like that. It's such a tragedy."

Employees at the recreation area said it would likely remain closed until Monday.

Durham police are investigating the death and anybody with information is asked to call them at 919-560-4118 or call Crime Stoppers at 919-683-1200.
