Officers return to duty after bus terminal scuffle that injured man
A man was in critical condition Wednesday after being stunned with a Taser during a fight with Fayetteville officers, police said.
Posted — UpdatedThe officers had been placed on administrative duty pending the outcome of investigations by police and the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office after 47-year-old Jeffrey Cox, of New Jersey, was critically injured in an altercation with the officers on Dec. 28.
Police say Cox was repeatedly calling 911 from pay phones at the bus station. When officers tried to arrest him for improper use of the 911 system, he began fighting them and continued to fight up to six officers before he was eventually subdued.
At one point, officers used a stun gun on Cox, but they said it seemed to have little effect.
Three officers suffered minor injuries in the fight.
Cox is expected to recover.
The findings of the internal investigation have been turned over to the district attorney, but MacRoberts said there was no indication that the officers violated any policies or procedures.
