— A Raleigh man was hospitalized Monday after, police say, he shot a Winston-Salem police officer while fleeing a traffic stop and was wounded with his own gun.

A spokesman for the Winston-Salem Police Department said Officer Nicholas Powell stopped a white Nissan Sentra for speeding at about 2 a.m. The car then drove off, with Powell clinging to the side of the vehicle, police said.

After about a quarter-mile, the car stopped, and Powell struggled with one of the three people in the vehicle, police said. The man's gun went off, wounding both Powell and the man.

Police identified the man as Gary Giovon Lynn, 26, of Raleigh.

Neither Lynn's nor Powell's injuries are life-threatening, police said.

Eastbound lanes of Interstate 40 Business in Winston-Salem near Lowery Street were closed early Monday.

Hey Justin. Well I cant say what I want to say on here about you, but your brain is the size of a pea. There are plenty of whites committing crimes, plenty of whites in jail, and plenty of sorry whites.

What a poorly titled article. How about "suspect shoots police officer." If you want to read a real news article go read ABC11's article. There you will find that there was marijuana, officer shot multiple times including chest/vest, and occupants were removed from vehicle prior to the driver attempting to flee.

At least attempt to do a little journalism WRAL...
