— An SUV entering a Bojangles' parking lot Friday morning struck a driver and Clayton police officer who were dealing with an earlier wreck.

It happened about 7:45 a.m. outside the restaurant at 11900 U.S. Business 70 West while Office K. L. Cook was investigating the previous wreck.

Clayton police said Patricia Whitaker Jones, 58, of 233 Dairy Road in Clayton, hit Cook and Daniel Gerald Blackmon, 37, and crushing Blackmon between Jones' vehicle and his pick-up truck.

Blackmon was taken to WakeMed in Raleigh, where he was being treated Friday morning for serious leg injuries. He was listed in serious condition Monday morning.

Cook was also taken to WakeMed, where he was treated for minor injuries and released.

Jones was not injured. Police said the wreck is under investigation and that charges are pending.

Just an FYI it is not just a broken leg and the other individual who was hurt is in serious condition. Just thought I would pass it along.

LEONC---Sorry if I misread the article. Mine said Officer L.C. Cook was investigating an earlier wreck and...he was released with minor injuries. The broken leg went with someone else, I thought. Three graduate degrees can't prepare me for WRAL news, nor can being a Vet, my world travels, working for Nixon, etc. I would never wish anything bad on ANY LEO doing his or her job thr right way. Never. Apologies and biscuits all around. I need a translator WRAL.

"Hey honey! Let's run down to the Bojangles. Maybe we'll run into someboy we know!"

Ok, so I can't help but laugh. I know that sometimes people get hurt and all that, but humor is a good source of venting frustration or stress. So thank you for relieving some stress because some of these comments are pretty funny. If it were me in the hospital with a broken leg, I would appreciate the humor.

Those evil SUV's should be hung from the rafters. What can you really do though when they have such a mind of their own?

  • ncweddingdj.com Dec 26, 2008

This is even worse than two weeks ago when the biscuits slid out of the take-out window and crashed down mightily on a car waiting there. We all hope the folks will be okay in this holiday time, but it just goes to show you the ever rampant evil potential of going to fast food places for nourishment, even from the light (lite?) menu. No long-term studies have yet been completed...

For all of you that constantly rag on how WRAL reports articles, why don't you mosey on over to ABC11 or NBC17...but I guess that would make too much sense..STOP COMPLAINING about how the article is written or that there is not enough info, they're giving you everything they have, please start using what brain cells you have left!
