Officer Attacked With Post, Man Arrested

A Roanoke Rapids man has been charged with trying to kill a police officer after the officer was attacked with a wooden post, police said.

ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. — A Roanoke Rapids man has been charged with trying to kill a police officer after the officer was attacked with a wooden post, police said.

Patrolman Westry Thorpe of the Roanoke Rapids Police Department was serving a domestic violence warrant on Christopher Davis, 22, when he was attacked, police said.

Davis has been charged with attempted first-degree murder, assault on a law enforcement officer inflicting serious injury and resisting arrest, police said.

Thorpe suffered facial and dental injuries and is recovering at home, police said.
