Off-duty Raleigh police officer faces DWI charge

An off-duty Raleigh police officer was charged with drunken driving shortly after midnight Tuesday, according to arrest warrants.

RALEIGH, N.C. — An off-duty Raleigh police officer was charged with drunken driving shortly after midnight Tuesday, according to court documents.

A state trooper pulled over a car on Creedmoor Road near Glenwood Avenue for speeding, documents stated.

Matthew Kyle Ford, 31, of 5114 Echo Ridge Road, was charged with driving while impaired and speeding.

According to court documents, Ford had a blood-alcohol level of 0.16 and was going 67 mph in a 50-mph zone. Under state law, a driver is considered impaired with a blood-alcohol level of 0.08.

He was released under a written promise to appear in court on May 24.

Ford has been with the Raleigh Police Department for eight years, sources said.
