— An off-duty police officer at the Fayetteville Veterans Affairs Medical Center was cited Monday for sexual battery.

The criminal summons for Darian Burden, 41, of the 100 block of Toot-Toot Street in St. Pauls, was issued by a Cumberland County magistrate since it is a misdemeanor, according to a release from the Fayetteville Police Department.

Burden was off-duty when he met a woman Friday night and identified himself as a police officer before touching her inappropriately, police said.

Burden was summoned to appear in Cumberland County court June 28.

Thanks for updating and correcting the info. Makes more sense now that he has been identified as a LEO.

Wow, another LEO bites the dust, no matter if he is a Hospital cop or an off duty PD, he is a piece of garbage for doing this.

I think he's a hopsital police officer. Similar to Wake Med Campus police. His jurisdiction is the hospital & grounds.

Why is this listed as an off-duty officer? Nowhere in the article does it say that this man is a police officer, only that he pretended to be. he might be a military officer, but I think the headline is misleading.
