Oak Grove considers firing water operator over brown water

OAK GROVE, La. — Mayor Adam Holland says he may fire the town's water operator, citing rusting equipment and brown drinking water.
Holland tells KNOE-TV (http://bit.ly/2df8Tol) that he met with the owner of Ruston-based American Water and Wastewater Management last week, giving the company the required 120-day notice to end the contract.
The mayor says he's given the company a list of things that have to be changed within 90 days to keep Oak Grove as a customer.
Holland says he and town council members are concerned about lack of maintenance at the city sewage plant, and says Oak Grove's water has run brown for years. Holland blames the company for not telling him the sewage plant was deteriorating and needed maintenance.
