NRA's political arm runs North Carolina ad critical of Ross

Posted September 16

— The National Rifle Association's political action committee has gotten involved in North Carolina's U.S. Senate race with a television ad critical of Democratic candidate Deborah Ross.

The NRA's Political Victory Fund says it's spending at least $1 million on the commercial that began running this week in several TV markets in the state. It accuses the former state legislator of supporting gun control and opposing the right to self-defense by citing some of her votes.

Ross' campaign said this week that she's a strong Second Amendment supporter and backs efforts to keep guns out of the hands of suspected terrorists and violent criminals. The campaign criticized rival Republican Sen. Richard Burr for opposing a proposal to expand background checks for gun purchases at gun shows and on the internet.
