Northbound I-85 reopened in Vance County

Posted December 10, 2008

— The state Department of Transportation reopened the northbound lanes of Interstate 85 between mile markers 206 and 214 near Henderson late Monday.

Northbound traffic has been shifted onto two newly constructed lanes. Southbound traffic will remain in one lane while the DOT removes concrete barriers and replaces striping, which is expected to be complete by the end of the year.

In March, the DOT will shift southbound traffic to the northbound lanes, and traffic will again be reduced to one lane in each direction until next November.

The traffic shifts are necessary to continue paving operations as part of the I-85 rehabilitation project, officials said.

It is about time. That has been the slowest project. After almost of year of driving daily on two lane interstate. They are going to have to fix the southbound lanes now. They is so many potholes from all the traffic. It reminds me how road construction projects get done quicker in Wake and Durham county.
