North Carolina's unemployment rate fell to 9.3 percent in October. Nonfarm jobs increased by 35,700 from a year ago, the state says.

North Carolina’s unemployment rate fell to 9.3 percent in October.

Nonfarm jobs increased by 35,700 from a year ago, the state reported Friday. 

The seasonally adjusted jobless rate declined from 9.6 percent in September even as the national rate climbed a bit to 7.9 percent.

A year ago, the jobless rate in the state was 10.6 percent.

The number of people working climbed 43,699 to nearly 4.3 million, the state said. That's an increase of 95,425 from a year ago.

According to the North Carolina Department of Commerce Division of Employment Security, the leisure and hospitality sector increased the most jobs at 3,600.

Transportation and utilities added 2,900.

Manufacturing jobs also increased by 2,600, and construction added 1,800 jobs.
