FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A North Carolina man was killed when the moped he was riding collided head-on with a pickup truck, whose driver was charged with driving while impaired and with a revoked license.
The Fayetteville Observer reports the N.C. Highway Patrol says 47-year-old Jeffrey David Towery was charged following the accident early Thursday.
According to the patrol, Towery's truck collided with a moped operated by 46-year-old Brandon Lewis Tammerine of Fayetteville. Investigators say Towery was driving at an estimated 70 mph (112 kph) when he hit the moped.
Tammerine was pronounced dead at the scene. The patrol said Towery and an 11-year-old girl sitting in the front seat of the truck were taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
