Norse Peak Fire burns close to 80 square miles, 12% contained
Firefighters continue to make progress on the Norse Peak Fire, which has burned about 50,000 acres of forestland along Highway 410 on the Yakima-Pierce County border since Aug.11. It's 12 percent contained.
Posted — UpdatedHighway 410 is closed from Highway 123 to east of Bumping River Road, and all of Bumping River Road is closed.
At 6 a.m. Monday morning, the fire was split into two zones, divided by the Pacific Crest Trail. Fire activity was reportedly minimal to moderate this morning, but it could increase today and Tuesday due to temperature increases and low humidity.
More than 600 emergency responders from 13 different crews are on site. They have 36 engines, four helicopters, three bulldozers and 10 water tenders.
No buildings have been destroyed and just one person received a minor injury.
Crews are working to remove brush and fall dead trees in areas that could compromise containment efforts.
The Pacific Crest Trail closure has expanded form White Pass to Snoqualmie Pass.
