Nonprofits present formerly homeless man with keys to car
A formerly homeless man will receive a new car Thursday afternoon, thanks to a partnership between the Raleigh Rescue Mission and Wheels4Hope.

The Raleigh Rescue Mission said the man, identified only as Randy, was an electrician for 10 years before opening a bail bond business with his son. When the business fell apart, he ended up homeless and a client of the Raleigh Rescue Mission.
A spokesperson with the Raleigh Rescue Mission said that within the past six months, Randy completed a series of life skills classes, crafted a resume and found a job.
During a “car blessing” presentation at 4 p.m. at Wheels4Hope at 929 South Saunders Street, Randy will be presented with the keys to a Ford Focus.
“We are honored to be part of a client’s transformation. Through their programs at Raleigh Rescue Mission, clients are securing employment, finding housing and then purchasing a car through our vehicle program,” said Heather Smith, program coordinator of Wheels4Hope. “Transportation is vital to ensure they can keep their jobs and take care of their families.”
Since 2010, the Raleigh Rescue Mission has received 40 cars, including the one that will be presented to Randy, through Wheels4Hope.
