Tractor-trailer overturns on US 1
FRANKLINTON, N.C. — Authorities shut down all northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 1 south of Franklinton for about five hours early Thursday after a tractor-trailer overturned.

The wreck happened at about 4:30 a.m. near Bert Winston Road, which is between Youngsville and Franklinton, according to State Highway Patrol officials.

Troopers said truck driver Charles Alexander of Kannapolis was pulling a tandem trailer filled with furniture when he ran off the side of the highway. The tractor and first trailer overturned and wound up lying across U.S. 1, troopers said, adding the second trailer separated from the first and wound up in some trees off the road.

No serious injuries were reported in the wreck. Troopers cited driver fatigue as a factor in the wreck.

The highway reopened at about 9:15 a.m.
