No injuries when shots fired at Haywood church

Haywood County police responded to a report of shots fired near the Maple Grove Baptist Church on Wednesday at about 3:15 p.m.

HAYWOOD COUNTY, N.C. — Nobody was hurt in an alleged church shooting in Haywood County Wednesday afternoon.

Haywood County police responded to a report of shots fired near the Maple Grove Baptist Church on Wednesday at about 3:15 p.m.

According to the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office, there was a single man inside the church. Gunfire was exchanged between officers and the suspect, whose name has not been released.

No officers were injured but Emergency Medical Services were called to offer help to the suspect.

The State Bureau of Investigation is currently investigating the crime.
