"Why in the world are Apex residents attending Southeast Raleigh High? This bussing mess is outrageous." - SmileAndNod

SRHS is a magnet school. I went there years ago and was bussed all the way from north Raleigh.

Honestly, my bus ride wasn't really much longer than it had been in middle school or elementary school (both of which had been within 5 miles from my house) because it was a shuttle bus and only had two stops. Further drive, but not stopping every 5 minutes to let one or two kids on/off.

I would look into the cell phone records of the bus driver. Many times I have pulled in beside school bus drivers either parked or moving and have seen the drivers talking or texting.

I would suggest that we wait for the facts before passing judgement. In that location, the right lane turns into a right turn only lane. People OFTEN stay in that right lane and then zoom over to the left when it ends. I could EASILY see someone using that right lane to try and get around that bus and then merging to the left without enough room to do so and traffic stopped ahead resulting in the bus rearending them because it didn't have enough room to stop. I have seen this happen alot at this intersection. I am just glad that no one was injured.

Jimmytwotimes: Maybe we should set the standards higher for school bus drivers

    They are already higher.

    Was the bus driver texting?

  • LocalYokel Nov 26, 2013

Sounds like bad driver(s) caused a lot of property damage. It's especially troubling to see that 20 students were involved in the wreck.

    Charges against drivers?

  • Jimmytwotimes Nov 26, 2013

Maybe we should set the standards higher for school bus drivers. just a thought since they crash every other day with children in them.
