Nine to be charged following check of Halifax sex offenders

Of those, 102 are living where they should be, and the remaining three are either in jail or prison.

Although compliance checks are routine, Tripp said the most recent was with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service, which enforces a federal law known as the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act.

"The Halifax County Sheriff's Office has dedicated resources to continually monitor offenders," Tripp said. "However, coordination with other agencies allows for exchange of information, detection of Internet offenders and identification of probation violations."
