Nine charged in Knightdale drug investigation

The investigation by Knightdale police and the Alcohol Law Enforcement branch of the State Bureau of Investigation began after authorities received tips about illegal activities at Rudinos Pizza on Village Park Drive and Sports Page on North Smithfield Road.

KNIGHTDALE, N.C. — Nine suspects were charged in a three-month investigation into drug and alcohol violations at two Knightdale businesses, authorities said Friday.

The investigation by Knightdale police and the Alcohol Law Enforcement branch of the State Bureau of Investigation began after authorities received tips about illegal activities at Rudinos Pizza on Village Park Drive and Sports Page on North Smithfield Road.

Investigators said they found drug- and alcohol-related crimes were regularly occurring at the businesses.

“Criminal activity within ABC licensed establishments such as these creates an unsafe environment for patrons as well as the community as a whole,” Acting SBI Director B.W. Collier said in a statement. “Disregard for such illegal activity allows the criminal element in our communities to use these businesses as a haven for criminal acts.”

The following suspects were charged at Sports Page:

  • William Joseph McGee, owner, conspiracy to sell cocaine, allowing controlled substance violations to occur on the licensed premises.
  • Brian Keith Davis, manager, possession with intent to sell or distribute a counterfeit controlled substance, selling a counterfeit controlled substance and allowing controlled substance violations to occur on the licensed premises.
  • Jonathan Williford, employee, arrested on an outstanding warrant.
  • Adrian Obrien Bobo, possession of cocaine.

The following were charged at Rudinos Pizza:

  • Daphne Lee Turner, manager, conspiracy to sell Valium/Diazepam, allowing controlled substance violations to occur on the licensed premises, possession with intent to sell or distribute cocaine and conspiracy to sell cocaine.
  • Joseph Frank Currin III, employee), possession with intent to sell or distribute codeine and sale of Tylenol with codeine.
  • Jennifer Caroline Brown, possession with intent to sell or distribute cocaine, sale of cocaine, possession with intent to sell or distribute hydrocodone and sale of hydrocodone.
  • Shawn Bunce, possession with intent to sell or distribute Valium/Diazepam, sale of Valium/Diazepam and conspiracy to sell Valium/Diazepam.
  • Wesley Cesnik, conspiracy to sell Valium/Diazepam and possession with intent to sell or distribute Valium/Diazepam.
