RALEIGH, N.C. — North Carolina's newest member of Congress has already been named to chair a health care panel.

Republican Rep. Renee Ellmers will lead a subcommittee on the topic in the House Small Business Committee.

“As a nurse and small business owner, Renee Ellmers will be a great resource as the committee examines ways we can improve the health care law without creating new problems for American entrepreneurs,” House Small Business Committee Chairman Sam Graves, R-Mo., said in a statement.

Ellmers campaigned on a promise to repeal President Barack Obama's health care law. She and her husband run a medical clinic in Dunn.

She said she would work to promote economic growth and private sector job creation.
