RALEIGH, N.C. — Elizabeth Edwards' older daughter will give one of three eulogies at this weekend's public memorial service to honor the estranged wife of two-time presidential candidate John Edwards.

Details of the funeral provided Thursday show that Cate Edwards, 28, will offer her memories, along with two of her mother's longtime friends, Hargrave McElroy and Glenn Bergenfield. John Edwards is not scheduled to speak.

McElroy is Cate Edwards' godmother, taught the Edwards children at Broughton High School and regularly traveled with Elizabeth Edwards during political campaigns. Bergenfield was one of Elizabeth Edwards' classmates in law school at the University of North Carolina.

Cate Edwards, who grew up in Raleigh, is a graduate of Princeton University and Harvard Law School. She lives and works in Washington, D.C.

"Cate is miraculous, and she's been through so much, her brother and now her mom," family friend Jennifer Palmieri said. "But she's very strong and has so much of her mother's strength and sass and attitude."

The funeral service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Edenton Street United Methodist Church in Raleigh. It's the same church that Edwards turned to after losing her 16-year-old son Wade to a car crash in 1996.

She had four children, including 12-year-old Emma Claire and 10-year-old Jack.

The service is open to the public while the burial will be private.

Edwards died Tuesday, six years after she was first diagnosed with cancer. The disease returned in an incurable form in 2007 during John Edwards' second presidential campaign.

The couple went through a tumultuous period in which he admitted to an affair and to fathering his lover's child. The Edwardses separated about a year ago, though he was at her side in the final days of her life.
