— Elizabeth Edwards' older daughter will give one of three eulogies at this weekend's public memorial service to honor the estranged wife of two-time presidential candidate John Edwards.

Details of the funeral provided Thursday show that Cate Edwards, 28, will offer her memories, along with two of her mother's longtime friends, Hargrave McElroy and Glenn Bergenfield. John Edwards is not scheduled to speak.

McElroy is Cate Edwards' godmother, taught the Edwards children at Broughton High School and regularly traveled with Elizabeth Edwards during political campaigns. Bergenfield was one of Elizabeth Edwards' classmates in law school at the University of North Carolina.

Cate Edwards, who grew up in Raleigh, is a graduate of Princeton University and Harvard Law School. She lives and works in Washington, D.C.

"Cate is miraculous, and she's been through so much, her brother and now her mom," family friend Jennifer Palmieri said. "But she's very strong and has so much of her mother's strength and sass and attitude."

The funeral service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Edenton Street United Methodist Church in Raleigh. It's the same church that Edwards turned to after losing her 16-year-old son Wade to a car crash in 1996.

She had four children, including 12-year-old Emma Claire and 10-year-old Jack.

The service is open to the public while the burial will be private.

Edwards died Tuesday, six years after she was first diagnosed with cancer. The disease returned in an incurable form in 2007 during John Edwards' second presidential campaign.

The couple went through a tumultuous period in which he admitted to an affair and to fathering his lover's child. The Edwardses separated about a year ago, though he was at her side in the final days of her life.

I didn't hear what that lady was saying on the radio this morning, but after reading other comments I can't believe somebody would say such things.

I agree that EE was a great woman, but the media has gone a bit overboard in reporting regarding her death. I'd say just leave her family alone, but it seems as though they don't mind the attention. Then again, this is a woman who was involved in US politics so it is no surprise all of the publicity surrounding her passing.

I hope she is resting peacefully.

I have a great respect for Elizabeth Edwards. I hope that nothing disrupts her funeral tomorrow. I will say that I believe WRAL's decision to televise her funeral is a bit much, though.

EE knew her husband was a liar and a cheat while she was promoting him to become the next President of the United States. She valued power over truth and loyalty. That's all I need to know about her.

seankelly15...Don't take parts of a comment and make it fit your thesaurus word of the day. There was nothing petulant about my comment. It is a fact that people should focus on their on families and not partake in drawing attention to a bunch of imbeciles thriving on media attention. By doing so, you are taking away from the families grieving and right to privacy.

Elizabeth Edwards children has been taught well about God and heaven, so they will certainly not be influenced by someone's ignorance shown around the funeral service tomorrow. She and John Edwards raised their children well. They will ignored these people, too.

NotFromHere and TrueBlue -- Just because Brick City Girl plans to be at this funeral doesn't mean she hasn't cared about the military funerals. From her post, it's obvious that she has been aware of, and very much opposed to, the hateful picketing at those funerals as well. This is the first time, to my knowledge, that this group has picketed a funeral in this area, so that is why people in this area are plan on going and are especially incensed. The people I know, and the ones who have posted here, are appalled at the behavior of this group at ANY funeral.

when someone is on the RADIO ranting, all you have to do is switch to another station or turn the radio off. Its your choice. Besides the media continues to give these people coverage. Go Figure. Enough!
