June recorded as hottest ever in Triangle, Triad

Two weather stations in North Carolina have set in stone what people felt on their brow - last month was the hottest June ever.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Two weather stations in North Carolina have set in stone what people felt on their brow: Last month was the hottest June ever.

The National Weather Service reports that last month was the warmest June on record at Raleigh-Durham International Airport and Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro.

At Raleigh-Durham, the monthly average temperature was 81.5 degrees, breaking the mark of 80.7 degrees set in June 2008. Piedmont Triad reached an average of 79.8 degrees, higher than the 79 degrees set in June 1952.

Seven daily temperature records were broken in June at Raleigh-Durham, including 101 degrees June 27. On 22 days, the high reached 90 or greater.

Five high-temperature records were either tied or broken in Greensboro, and 17 days reached 90 degrees or higher.
