WILMINGTON, N.C. — Maintenance workers at a coastal North Carolina park discovered the body of a man in a wooded area.

The New Hanover County Sheriff's office said Thursday that personnel at Carolina Beach State Park located the body.

The sheriff's office said the body was that of a white male between 25 and 35 years old, and approximately 180 pounds and 6-feet tall. The victim was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, tan cargo pants and black sneakers with red trim.

A camouflage hat was found inside the front hooded sweatshirt pocket with the initials of “E.W.M.A.R.” The man was also found wearing a gold/silver Seiko dress watch with a black face.

Detectives were unable to rule out foul play, and the cause of death was not known. The body was to be taken to the state medical examiner's office in Chapel Hill for an autopsy on Friday.
