Hundreds attend Gov. Bob Scott's funeral
Grandchildren of former Gov. Bob Scott say his love for North Carolina was an extension of his love for family.
Posted — UpdatedSeveral hundred people attended Scott's funeral Tuesday at his family church in Almance County. His grandson, Scott Sutton, told mourners his grandfather's life should inspire others to give to their community and state.
The 79-year-old Scott died Friday after a period of declining health.
Three former governors and current Gov. Beverly Perdue were among those at the service.
Scott's coffin was draped in a state flag as it was pulled by the Highway Patrol Caisson Unit to Hawfields Presbyterian Church's cemetery across the street. Two of the horses in the caisson also pulled former President Ronald Reagan's casket during his 2004 funeral.
Scott served as governor from 1969 to 1973 and led the state community college system from 1983 to 1994. He was the son of Kerr Scott, a former governor and U.S. senator.
