RALEIGH, N.C. — The Civil Air Patrol made Raleigh-Durham International Airport its base for simulated search-and-rescue missions this weekend.

The CAP is holding statewide exercises in preparation for an evaluation by the Air Force in April.

At least three aircraft will fly from RDU and more from Asheville Regional Airport and Burlington Regional Airport, Capt. Victor Lewis said.

Ground searchers will simulate a search for a downed aircraft near Marion.

The searchers will be looking for pre-placed emergency transmitters.
