Hearing delayed in death of teen tied to tree

Posted July 2, 2008

— The parents of a 13-year-old boy who police say died when he was tied to a tree for two nights won't next appear in court until later this year.

The Daily Southerner of Tarboro reports a probable cause hearing scheduled for Wednesday in Edgecombe County was rescheduled for Aug. 7 for 36-year-old Sandra McMillan and Dec. 27 for 41-year-old Brice McMillan.

The are both charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of felony child abuse.

Authorities said their teenage son Tyler was found June 12 unresponsive and tied to a tree at the family's farm in the Macclesfield community.

He later was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Authorities have said he was tied to the tree as a punishment for disobedience.

I hope these two get major time in prison (if not a harsher sentence) for this. I have a question though...How do you die from being tied to a tree? Was he beaten first? Could he not breathe? Honest question.

What more probable cause can they get. I say tie one to a tree until August and the other until December. It would seem that the actual person who tied the child to the tree is the one with the latest probable cause hearing. Both are unfit for the human race.

Well where's his autopsy report? I've been waiting patiently to see it. I just HAVE to know how this poor child suffered at the hands of these unfit parents. Public's right to know and all...

the article does not specify but I assume that they are still in custody since they are charged w/ first degree murder...they would not grant bail for that...would they?
