MAYSVILLE, N.C. — Power has been restored to most North Carolina residents affected by the seven tornados that moved through the eastern part of the state.
At least six people received minor injuries when a tornado hit Maysville and Belgrade late Sunday afternoon.
Officials said the tornado leveled a convenience store and six mobile homes off U.S. Highway 17. The owner of a mobile home park says a 9-year-old girl living there was expected to recover after a refrigerator fell on her during the storms.
As many as 5,000 people along the coast were without power, but crews had restored service to all but 100 people in Onslow County by Monday morning.
In western North Carolina, the Asheville Citizen-Times reports strong winds downed trees and power lines, and nearly 20,000 people were affected by power outages early Monday.
