GREENSBORO, N.C. — A high-tech chip maker in Greensboro is cutting jobs for the second time in a month.
The News & Record of Greensboro reported Wednesday that RF Micro Devices plans to cut about 200 jobs.
Tuesday's announcement came as the company said it lost $16.5 million, or 6 cents a share, in the latest quarter. The company makes microchips for cellular phones and other high-performance radio systems.
RF Micro said last month it was eliminating 80 jobs in Greensboro as it consolidated some testing operations in China.
Executive Vice President Jerry Neal says the reductions will increase profitability and add more value for shareholders.
The company employs about 2,000 people in Greensboro and about 5,000 around the world.
RF Micro is selling its global positioning systems business.
