CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Authorities say a man was killed outside a Charlotte bar after he was shoved into the path of a car during a fight.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said Robert Kingston III, 26, died before paramedics could arrive around 10:40 p.m. Saturday. Witnesses said a fight between two men inside Ed's Tavern spilled into the parking lot, and 23-year-old Kenan Gay shoved Kingston into the road in front of a BMW.

Investigators say Gay, a former UNC football walk-on from Sanford, has been charged with murder. It wasn't clear if he had a lawyer.

Police say the driver of the BMW called police after hitting Kingston and will not be charged.
