More than 21% of North Carolina's four-year-olds enrolled in the state's pre-kindergarten programs during the 2022-2023 school year, up from the prior year but still below the state's pre-pandemic highs, according to the National Institute for Early Education Research.

I'm meteorologist Amy Wing in the WRL severe weather center. We have a lot of sunshine over North Carolina today, but clouds will be moving in overnight tonight and through the day tomorrow and eventually storms will get here today. The severe weather threat is well to the west of us. You can see that in those bright shades of reds, oranges and yellows. As the system gets closer to North Carolina tomorrow, it loses some of its energy. Most of the energy will be south of North Carolina. But in the afternoon and evening, we do have some weak energy so some isolated, severe storms will be possible from around southern Wake County and points to the west and southwest. This would be for tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow evening, it's about a 30 to 40% chance for showers and storms tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow evening. And then as we get into Saturday, it looks mainly dry, but we'll have another round of rain. On Sunday, we do have another cold front that arrives this weekend and a low pressure system moving along that front will likely provide us with some rain, especially the second half of the day. On Sunday, also note we're on the cool side of the front and so temperatures will be much cooler. On Sunday, temperatures will be down into the forties, Sunday night and Monday night, high temperatures will stay in the sixties as we head into Sunday afternoon and Monday afternoon. So we're going from this warm summer like pattern to some much cooler temperatures the second half of the weekend and into early next week. But highs are back in the mid to upper seventies as we head into Tuesday and Wednesday.
