'Laura's Law' aims to crack down on drunken drivers
State lawmakers unveiled a new bill Tuesday to keep habitual drunken drivers off the roads longer.
Posted — UpdatedRALEIGH, N.C. — State lawmakers unveiled a new bill Tuesday to keep habitual drunken drivers off the roads longer.
"Laura's Law" is named for 17-year-old Laura Fortenberry who died in Gaston County in July. She was riding with friends when an oncoming car crossed the center line and slammed into their vehicle, according to authorities.
Howard Pasour faces a second-degree murder charge for the crash. He has a history of drunken driving convictions and had two pending driving while impaired charges, according to court records.
Rep. Tim Moore, R-Cleveland, announced legislation Tuesday that calls for tougher prison sentences and restrictions for repeat drunken drivers.
