As the state Senate takes up its work on the $19.3 billion budget proposal that the House passed last week, Sen. David Rouzer, R-Johnston, has his eyes on the budget in Washington, D.C.
Rouzer filed Senate Bill 610, which seeks an amendment to the U.S. Constitution that would require the federal government to pass a balanced budget each year.
If state lawmakers pass the legislation, North Carolina would petition Congress to hold a constitutional convention. Thirty-four states must petition for such a move before a convention could be held.
